Chapter 8 Justice for Ingrid
Ingrid frowned, suddenly doubting whether she was hearing things after gring too long without sleep.
“They firing Ms. Cooper?”
“Yes,” Jasper repbed
Ingrid was stunned “Why?”
Jasper explained. “She knew all along that you’re being harassed by that male patient. She never reported it to the department se the hospital, and she failed to handle the situation properly. That’s what led to him becoming more braen–bold enough to rent you at the hospital
Ingrid hesitated. ““That does it really warrant firing het?”
Jasper asked, “Thadn’t the tell you not to engage with the patient?”
Ingrid stuttered. “T–that’s standard protocol. She wasn’t wrong”
The rule itself makes sense, but you have to look at the bigger picture When someone plays dirty while you’re the only one expected to play fair, that’s not enforcing rules- throwing you under the bus.” Jasper made things clear for her.
A mix of emotions welled up inside Ingrid of course, she knew this so–called ‘ prevailed
From 12 to 28, she had gone from righteous indignation to resigned acceptance.
was complete nonsense, but reality had already taught her how to survive in a world where twisted rules
Jasper continued. “When Sophie convinced me to come back, she said something I can’t control how other hospitals operate, but in Peaceheart, every single person–whether it’s a doctor. a nurse, or even a cafeteria worker–has the right to do their job in peace.
“If an outsider bullies them, the hospital will stand by them. If an insider causes trouble, they’re out. No second chances.”
Ingrid was well aware of this–it was written in Pracchwart’s policies. But she still felt uneasy. “What about me? How is the hospital handing my situation?”
Jasper sounded calm as ever. “Next time you come in to work, the patient and his family will personally apologize to you, and Dr. Zimmerman will pay you a visit himself.”
Achill ran down Ingrid’s spine. She opened her mouth but was too shocked to speak.
Jasper added, “If you have any other requests, let me know. I’ll pass them along”
Ingrid telt numb the quickdy said. “Dr. Clifford, give me a second. My brain’s processing a little slow.”
Jasper chuckled. “That’s why I told you to get some sleep. I only called to let you know everything’s been taken care of–no need to worry.”
Hearing that he was about to hang up, Ingrid quickly called out, “Dr. Clifford”
“Jaw you okay?” Ingrid asked.
There was a barely audile sigh on the other end. “I fine. I might consider relocating”
The tension in Ingrid’s temples tightened. “Where would you po?”
Jasper redbrezily, “Not to brag, but with my skills, any hospital would welcome me with open arms.”
Ingrid blurted out, “Your senior is Ms. Hill! If she went out of her way to protect me, there’s no way she wouldn’t protect you!”
Jasper chuckled. “She follows principles, tot favoritism”
Ingrid clenched her jaw. “If that’s how it is, then I’ll live. You stay”
This was her problem – why should he be the one to leave?
She was both anxious and trying to stay rational when suddenly, she heard a soft laugh through the phone. Alter everything that happened in the past two hours, she couldn’t help second-
Jasper’s voice was smooth and teasing “You really do trust people easily.”
Ingrid went silent. When she didn’t respond, la asked, “Aur you mad?” ”
She had expected to be, but surprisingly, she wasn’t. She let out a small, quiet sigh. “No. That’s actually the best joke I’ve heard all day.”
Few seconds later, Jasper dropped the teasing toe, and his voice became calm. “I’m not leaving. Does that make you happy?”
