Chapter 50
Lowering her voice. Clare warned, “Yasmin, stay away from my
Ivson!”
Yasmin had no patience for this. She had just dealt with Jayden harassing her ten minutes ago, and now, his mother was coming after her too. Enough was enough.
“Clare” Yasmin smiled, but there was no warmth in it.
Clee lifted her chin with a buff.
In the past, Yasmin had always stood there and taken these lectures quietly. Clare expected the same today. After all, Yasmin had first been engaged to Jayden, then somehow managed to murry Caleb instead. She had no right to act defiant, especially if she didn’t want people bringing up the past.
But Yasmin didn’t flinch. “Instead of warning me, maybe you should keep an eye on your precious son. He’s the one harassing me.”
Clare’s face twisted. “What did you just say? Disbellet flashed across her eyes. “What nonsense are you spewing? My son would never be interested in a woman who schemed her way into the Grant family!”
Her voice was too loud causing heads to turn. The other women at the event exchanged glances, their curiosity piqued
Everyone watched Yasmin intently, waiting for a show
Everyone knew Yasmin had married into the Grant family three years ago under questionable circumstances. They had the tact not to mention it out loud. But now, the Grants were airing their dirty laundry themselves. It seemed Yasmin’s position as Mrs. Grant wasn’t secured yet.
Yasmin’s expression darkened. She looked Clare in the eye and said coldly, “Clare, today is Mrs. Grant Senior’s birthday banquet. I suggest you be mindful of what you say.”
clare snapped out of her anger just long enough to realize she had lost control. But Yasmin’s words only reignited her fury.
“You suggest? What gives you the right to suggest anything to me? You may have fooled Caleb into marrying you, but it’s a good thing my son didn’t! Corine’s too simple–minded! Otherwise, she would’ve been pissed with how disrespectful you are toward your elders!” Clare sneered
More people gathered around.
Vanessa arrived, trying to diffuse the situation
Yasmin wasn’t afraid to argue, but she wasn’t going to let this ruin Gracie’s birthday celebration
“Clare, are you crazy? Why do you think everyone likes your son? Jasmine rolled her eyes. “Jayden is nothing compared to Caleb. He’s so stingy that he can’t even give a little pocket money without making a huss. Yasmin might be broke, but she’d never go for a cheapskate like him!”
Yasmin was speechless. Jasmine truly had no filter.
Clare had finally gone quiet, but at jasmine’s words, her fury reignited. She shoved Vanessa aside and jabbed a finger at Jasmine. “Jasmine! Is that any way to talk to me?” Vanessa, now pissed that her daughter was getting lectured, snapped back with a cutting remark of her own.
Yasmin sighed and turned to Jasmine. “Get me a glass of water. I’ll transfer you so dollars as a tip”
She felt quite intrigued by Jasmine’s love for money and didn’t mind giving her some pocket money.
Jasmine’s eyes lit up. She ran off excitedly and quickly returned with a glass of lemon water
Yasmin thanked her and took a sip. She quickly felt a discomfort in her throat. A strange, chy sensation spread down her throat. A suffocating rightness followed, and her heart pounded erratically. Within seconds, breathing became a struggle
There was a loud clatter as Yasmin’s fingers trembled and the glass slipped from her grasp, shattering on the floor.
“Yasmin! What the bell? Don’t freak me out!
Jasmine caught Yasmin as she swayed, barely managing to keep her upright. Yasmin cloved at her throat, gasping for air, her eyes wide in pank. She wanted to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out. She scanned the crowd, searching for someone she could trust, but there was no one
The murmers around her faded as the growing crowd watched in shaned silence.
“What’s happening to Yasmin?
“What’s wrong with her? Is she sick?
“Oh my God, is she going to collapse?
Across the room, Caleb watched as Yasmin was swarmed by a crowd. Before he could approach, a business partner caught him for a chat Suddenly, he heard people panicking and screaming Yasmin’s name. Without another word, he turned and sprinted toward the gathering crowd
Jasinine was struggling to hold Yasmin upright when Caleb pulled Yasmin into his arms.
