Chapter 47
Wanda’s expression named dark. She was Yasmin’s stepmother, which made her Caleb’s mother–in–law. However, Gracie kept referring to the emerald bead necklace as a family heirloom Was Gracte paving her no mind?
Besides, who had actual proot that the necklace belonged to Annie? She was making it sound like they had stolen Yasmin’s rightful inheritance. How would others view them in the future?
“Ms. Veronica, you’re 24 this year, aren’t you? Have you found a suitor yet?” Gracie took a sip of her tea and asked
Veronica’s heart leaped with joy as she thought that Gracie had taken a liking to her. She replied with a sweet smile, “Not yet, Mrs. Grent Senior”
Gracie’s expression remained warm, but there was now a sharp glint in her eyes that made one shudder.
“Perfect. There are many ladies here today and many outstanding bachelors. Perhaps we could help you find a suitable match just tell us what type of man you like. The sooner you settle on a match, the sooner you can settle down.”
Eager to please Gracie the women at the scene immediately began recommending eligible bachelors from their circles.
Veronica’s face paled as she stammered, “…” The man she liked was Galeb. How could they introduce her to someone else?
The sooner the settled on a match, the sooner she could settle down. What was Grace implying?
Veronica, you still haven’t given Mrs. Grant Senior your birthday wishes. Go on! Wanda was the first to react, discreetly tugging on Veronica’s hand.
Veronica forced a smile and delivered her wishes. However, throughout the exchange, Gracle remained turned to the other side, clearly uninterested in her. In contrast, when Yasmin stepped forward to speak, Gracie immediately beamed and took Yasmin’s hand in hers, caressing it gently.
Having failed to reach their goal, the Whitmore family left in disappointment.
“Mrs Grant Senior, I’m sorry I overslept, Yasmin apologized softly. She clearly remembered setting an alarm the night before. Why didn’t it ring?
Gracie didn’t blame her and instead revealed a bright smile. “I understand. Why would I blame you? You had a long night” with that, she shot Yasmin a wink.
Yasmin’s eyes widened in shock. How did Gracie know about what happened last night?
Gracie smirked.
“Did he tell you?” Yasmin asked in disbellet.
“He only mentioned that you slept late last night and needed to rest.
est. He even told us not to disturb you! Gracie chuckled, clearly speaking in his favor. “See! He loves you so much!
Yasmin was speechless. He might as well just announce outright that they had slept together!
Yasmin uncomfortably scratched her neck. The high–collared gown she had worn today suddenly felt like the wrong choice. It was as if she was deliberately trying to hide something. Yasmin averted her gaze, but just as she did, she locked eyes with someone in the crowd
Caleb was standing to the side, talking to one of the guests. He locked eyes with Yasmin for a moment before turning to the person beside him. He excused himself and strede toward Yasmin
Yasmin instinctively stood up, preparing to leave. Yet before she could, Caleb blocked her path. “Are you not feeling well?” he asked.
Yasmin remained silent. Caleb reached out and touched her forehead, but she immediately backed away, widening the distance between them. “What are you doing?”
Caleb smirked. “Mrs. Grant, are you feeling guilty?”
“You’re the one who should feel guilty!” she immediately shot back.
He looked down at her and revealed a teasing smile. “Twasn’t the one who initiated it last night. I have nothing to feel guilty about.”
