Chapter 30
George called his secretary to escort Ursula home, instructing them to stop by a pharmacy to tend to the injury on her face.
Ursula was the only daughter of the Montgomery family, and her mother came from the Grant family by seniority, she should be calling Caleb her uncle. She had always believed that with both the Grant and
Montgomery families backing her, she would never have to suffer any grievances.
And yet, Ursula was humiliated by Yasmin and Brenda today. Grant and George were present, but she still had to endure it
“Aren’t you going to see her off?” Brenda asked George. She wasn’t concerned about the drama and nodded at Ursula, who was leaving in tears. “That’s your mother’s darling daughter–in–law, the one she has set her heat on.”
With no outsiders around, George sat on the couch nearby. He stretched out his arm along the backrest and loosened his tie slightly as if the thing was suffocating him
“Brenda, are you the chief of the Department of Sarcasm? Have you ever considered speaking nicely?”
Unlike Caleb’s refined nature, George had a raw, untamed edge. Irritated, he shifted his leg, and the tip of his leather shoe nodged against Brenda’s heels.
“Mrs. Howard, instead of worrying about others, why don’t you check your husband’s contact in your phone?”
Brenda was speechless. Was George blocked? That was impossible.
“See? You’re not on my block list,” she said, pulling up her contacts and showing the screen to him.
“Although, I have to admit that watching you come back and immediately spend money on another woman and compete with me for the stone was quite infuriating. But it’s because you embarrassed me in public and not because—”
“Stop,” George cut her off abruptly, his eyes narrowing. “I’m the third one.”
Brenda stared at the unfamiliar number in confusion before turning to Yasman for confirmation.
“Isn’t this the guy who insisted on getting our numbers at the bar?
Yasmin suddenly felt the sharp gaze of the man beside her.
Caleb was staring at her. A bar? And exchanging numbers?
Yasmin felt an inexplicable sense of guilt. She was simply too morally upright for this.
Then, Yasmin quickly tried to jog Brenda’s memory. “No. We gave a fake number.”
“Oh.” Brenda, on the other hand, showed no such guilt.
She refused to believe she would ever do something so outrageous and immediately removed George from her block list
The next second, her phone rang with an incoming call. It was George.
Brenda and Yasmin were speechless. There was simply no way for Yasmin to defend her best friend now.
Brenda let out an awkward laugh. “Well, you can’t really blame me, George. You’ve been gone for so long that we’re practically strangers now. Besides, I didn’t even hold it against you for stealing my beloved treasure to give to another woman, and yet you’re upset that I blocked you?”
By the time she got to the second half of her sentence, Brenda was brimming with confidence. She was sending a warning that it George dared to argue, she might just settle some other scores while she was at it.
George wasn’t one to fuss over trivial matters with women. He said, “I won’t be leaving again anytime soon, Mrs. Howard. You’ll have plenty of time to get familiar with me.” Brenda wasn’t prepared for her estranged husband to move back in. “Well, Thave plans with Yasmin tonight, so I won’t be home.”
George turned to Caleb with a playful smirk. “Your wife won’t be home too?”
He deliberately emphasized that Yasmin wasn’t returning home. It was evident that George was privy to the rumors about Caleb and Yasmin.
Caleb’s expression darkened as he replied, “You seem well–informed.”
George simply chuckled, saying nothing more.
As they made their way out, they passed through the hall where the after–party was taking place.
The moment Caleb and George stepped in, guests immediately swarmed them with small talk and pleasantries.
Meanwhile, Veronica had left in disgrace, unable to bear the humiliation of showing up in a counterfeit designer gown.
Jeremy, on the other hand, had run into some drinking buddies and was having the time of his life. When he spotted Yasmin, he ran toward her.
