Chapter 29
“Ms. Montgomery, didn’t your elders ever teach you to be respectful?” Yasmin sneered
Brenda had gone through immense sorrow having lost both of her beloved parents within a year. Since Ursula dared to hurl sach cruel words, Yasmin didn’t hold back in the slightest
Ursula was stunned by the slap. She clutched her face as tears streamed down her cheeks. Her other hand trembled as she pointed at Yasmin. “How dare you? What gives you the right to hit me?+
Jeremy absentmindedly touched his face. Although Yasmin
in was ruthless and not to be trifled with, at least she had never slapped him before.
Meanwhile, Veronica was delighted to have found an outlet for her bottled–up emotions. She stepped forward and shielded Yasmin behind her.
“Yasmin has always been a little headstrong and reckless, but she didn’t mean any harm. She was just acting on Brenda’s behalf. Yasmin was in the wrong for hitting you. Let me apologize on her behalf. We’re all familiar with each other. There’s no need to escalate this, right?
Veronica played the role of a responsible and protective sister.
Brenda and Yasmin exchanged a glance. Brenda gave Yasmin a discreet thumbs–up.
Veronica sure was impressive. She had pinned all the blame on them while painting herself as the bigger person.
Veronica had always been skilled at this kind of maneuver. Back when she was younger and naive, Yasmin believed that Veronica was genuinely protecting her. However, she no longer believed in her anymore…
Ursula regained her confidence after hearing Veronica’s apology. She immediately raised her hand, ready to return the slap.
Before Yasinin could react, Brenda moved faster and seized Ursula’s wrist. She said coldly, “Ms. Montgomery, are you that eager to be hit tonight?”
Just then, a man’s booming voice was heard. “Ursula!”
No one had noticed Caleb approaching. His expression was unreadable, and his presence was enough to silence the room.
Ursula sobbed uncontrollably and pointed at Yasmin. “She hit me first she slapped me!”
Galeb remained unfazed and replied indifferently, “And you were planning to hit her back?”
His tone was so calm that it felt like he was genuinely asking if Ursula was that foolish.
Veronica’s heart clenched. Her fingers curled into fists, her nails digging deep into her palms. But the stinging pain barely registered.
Was Caleb defending Yasmin? Didn’t he hate her? It had to be because Yasmin was still his wife. That was the only reason.
Ursula turned to George and whined, “George”
“Mywife didn’t hit you” George raised his hands in mock surrender.
Ursula cried even harder. Brenda lounged against the couch, her gaze lazily sweeping over George and Ursula
By then, the event organizers had ushered the other guests into the party hall, leaving only a handful of people in the room.
Brenda looked at George and asked, “When did you get back?”
“Last night.”
George picked up a cigar, twirling it between his fingers. He noticed there were many women around, so he decided against lighting it.
Brenda smirked and replied, “If you plan on making these kinds of grand appearances, would you be so kind as to notify me in advance? I’d greatly appreciate your cooperation.”
George glanced at her and replied, “I did send you a message.”
Brenda frowned. “That’s impossible. I didn’t receive anything.”
George reached out and grabbed her chin. His face was dangerously close, and his breath was warm against her skin.
“Mrs. Howard, did you block me
