Chapter 27
Veronica clenched her teeth in frustration and glared at Jeremy. What a useless fool who only knew how to make things worse!
Jeremy, however, looked innocent. Did he say something wrong? No, he didn’t
Jeremy refused to back down after being glared at for no reason. He simply crossed his arms and turned away from Veronica.
With so many eyes watching, Veronica had no way out. She raised her paddle again and called out, “12.5 million dollars.”
The proxy bidder immediately followed. “Fourteen million dollars.”
Veronica glared at the bidder. After a long pause, she exhaled slowly and snapped, “14.5 million dollars.”
The bidder remained unfazed. “Sixteen million dollars.“”
The audience was thoroughly entertained. They fixed their attention on Veronica, waiting to see how much further she would go.
Veronica’s expression darkened as she asked, “Yasmin, you have no proof that the emerald bead necklace belongs to Annie. Are you really going to be so reckless? Just because of a hunch, you’re making the family spend a fortune on a plece of jewelry you won’t even wear?
Only an older woman could carry off a heirloom–grade emerald bead necklace. A woman in her early 20s wouldn’t be able to pull it oft
Veronica subtly twisted the narrative, making it seem as though Yasmin was being unreasonable while the Whitmore family had already gone to great lengths to accommodate her.
After all, Veronica had a good reputation in high society while Jeremy was a well–known playboy. Between the two, who would the public believe?
Brenda’s expression darkened. Before she could speak, Yasmin raised her paddle and said, “165 million dollars.”
Yasmin’s action showed how much the emerald bead bracelet meant to her. If it didn’t belong to Annie, why would she spend such a fortune on it?
“Don’t be impulsive. Do you even have that much money?” Veronica hissed
Jeremy responded matter–of–factly, “Isn’t Caleb paying?”
After a brief pause, he turned to Caleb and asked, “You’re covering this, right? I mean, I’ve never seen a man take his woman shopping and expect her to pay. That’d be embarrassing.”
Caleb nodded, signaling that he would cover the cost. He turned to Yasmin and said, “Do whatever you want. I’ll foot the bill
Amiddle–aged socialite behind Yasmin couldn’t help but chuckle softly. “Mr. Grant really knows how to pamper his wife!”
Veronica wanted to strangle her useless brother. What ackless fool!
Today had truly been a series of misfortunes–from her outfit to everything that had happened.
Yasmin tightened her grip around the paddle. After the other bidder raised their bid again, she chose not to bid further, and the emerald necklace went to the persistent proxy
bidder.
Vasmin’s gaze lingered on the proxy bidder. She felt regretful and guilty. After all, she didn’t want to spend Caleb’s money
Caleb, however, quickly sent a text to Harris, instructing him to investigate the person behind the proxy bidder. If Yasmin wanted the necklace, he’d gladly buy it back at a high price as a gift for her.
Though Caleb’s expression softened slightly, he was still visibly displeased. “Are you really unwilling to spend my money, Yasmin?
He stood up and walked over to her side, whispering in her ear, “Don’t you know that our marital assets are shared? There’s no reason to be so stingy on yourself, right?”
