Chapter 12 Falled the Interview
coln went straight into the car and threw Cynthia’s purse out the window of the backseat. Then, the car drow off
Cynthia picked up her purse, dusting off the dirt. She thought this was good as well. This way, she would not need to force herself to be in the

Cynthia did not draw it, nor did she explain berselt. There was no way for her to explain anyway.
the same space as Colin.
She grabbed her phone and switched it on. Then, she saw a long list of missed calls. Zoey made the most of them. Helena was on the list as well. Out of all the names in red, Brian’s only appeared once.
Soon, Helena’s call came in. As usual, she sounded incredibly urgent as she said, “I’m done for. Save me, Cyn.”
Helena was still at the research center at that hour
“m’s very late, but I’m being serious. I’ll be dead this time if you don’t save me,” said Helena, just like she did most of the time.
However, Cynthia had never stood ally by “Alright. It’s time I’m free right now. I’ll be right there.”
“Amazing! I love you, Cyn! What should I do when I’m left alone after you leave?” said Helena.
d to care about me
After Cynthia hung up the call, she saw that Kyle was still there. She rubbed her frozen hands together and said, “I’ll get a taxi. You don’t need
Kyle saw that her nose was so frozen that it was all red.
There was a big temperature difference between day and night during winter. She did not have enough layers to beat the cold when she came. It was not because she wanted to look fashionable, as her limbs were covered.
A tough man like Kyle could not even stand the cold after standing outside for a long time. He sneered at Colin in his head for not taking pity on Cynthia “Atad? There’s no way you can get a taxi here,” Kyle said.
Cynthia recalled what Kyle had told Colin over the phone before they came over. That was a newly developed area. The location was not even on the map. *Please tell me where I can get a tati. I’ll walk there,” said Cynthia
Kyle frowned. He would not be able to bear the responsibility if anything were to happen to her in the middle of the night. Only a person like Colin could abandon her without even loolding back
“Where are you heading to? I’ll give you a ride,” said Kyle
Cynthia waved her hand. “No need I’m heading back to campus to take care of some things. I don’t want to bother you”
Kyle clicked his tongue. Hearing her refuse his offer and being so polite made him feel uncomfortable. “Cyn, if I don’t trouble myself tonight, I might be in big trouble in the future.
Then, he added, “How about this? since you don’t want to trouble me, have someone pick you up instead.”
Half an hour later, Helena’s car finally arrived at the entrance.
Helena and Hyde spoke over the phone for directions. They went from being polite, as they did not know each other, to almost getting into a fight over the phone. One got tired of explaining while the other was confused by what she heard. Both of them questioned each other’s intelligence.
Cynthia got into the car and thanked Kyle, bidding him goodbye.
Kyle waved at Cynthia in return. Finally, he completed his mission. He rolled up his sleeve and returned to the gambling den that was bright as the day
Helena was having an episode of road rage, complaining to Cynthia about how hard it was to find that area.
After Cynthia and Helena returned to the office, they started searching for data to support their research topic. They also spoke to a graduate student in their program whom they had met in an exchange abroad, asking for advice about some academic issues that were not clearly defined yet
By the time everything was done, the 6:00 am alarm rang
Cynthia picked up the shawl and draped it on Helena.
Helena, who only fell asleep ten minutes ago, immediately woke up. “Cyn!”
Cynthia comforted her, saying, “It’s all done. Don’t worry. You only need to subent your paper at 10:00 am. You still have time to edit
Helena had tears well up in her eyes. She bugged Cynthia tight and said, “What am I supposed to do without you? Mr. Freeman made an exception and took both of us in before he retired. What should he do now that he’s losing you, his right–hand woman?”
Cynthia chuckled. “Mr. Freeman will understand.“
Helena shook her head in Cynthia’s arms, expressing that she did not wish to listen or understand.
Cynthia saw a new email pop up on her computer. The email address looked very fasillar. It was from firal
She removed herself from Helena’s arms and clicked on the email.
It read, “Dear Ms. Cynthia Sutton, based on our current hiring needs and the match to the pallion, we regret to inform you that your application has not been selected at this time.
