Chapter 28
Nelly set down her utensils, pouting as she looked at Matthew.
“If I never like you in this lifetime, does that mean I’ll never see your face?” she asked.
Matthew’s expression turned serious at her words. He gazed at her intently. “Then I’ll spend my whole life warming that cold heart of yours,” he replied resolutely in a deep voice.
A hint of embarrassment flickered across Nelly’s face, but in the next instant, she broke into a gooly grin.
Matthew looked at her and handed her a glass of mill
Nelly stared at the milk in front of her, her gaze fixed on it as if deep in thought
“Since we’re already married, let’s make the best of it. Don’t worry, I won’t stray just because of your age,” Nelly said seriously.
Hearing this, Matthew felt a mix of emotions. Then, chuckling softly, he said, “I believe you.”
Nelly beamed sweetly at Matthew, her dimples faintly appearing on her cheeks
As Matthew gazed at her, a profound sense of peace and happiness filled his heart. He had once believed he would spend the rest of his life alone, but that night changed everything–it brought him the most important person in his life.
He even felt grateful toward the person who had attacked him. Without that incident, he would have never met Nelly.
“I’m full,” Nelly said contentedly.
“Abel,” Matthew called
Abel immediately walked through the door. “Mr. Yorke, Ms. Albright,” he greeted respectfully.
“Clear everything away,” Matthew instructed, his tone leaving no room for debate.
“Right away, Mr. Yorke,” Abel replied with deference.
Nelly watched as Matthew’s expression changed, and she couldn’t help but feel a tightening of her chest.
“Wait,” Matthew suddenly called out.
“Yes, Mr. Yorke?” Abel responded respectfully
Matthew stood up, and though his expression was unreadable, the seriousness in his demeanor was unmistakable to anyone present.
He walked up to Nelly and pulled her into his arms. He then declared to Abel in an icy voice, “From this day forward, Nelly is the lady of this house. You will address her as Mrs. Yorke. If anyone dares to show her disrespect, they’ll have to answer to me!”
Though shocked, Abel remained composed on the surface.
“Yes, Mr. Yorke. I’ll inform the others and make sure they all know,” Abel replied respectfully.
“Alright, you can go now,” Matthew said coolly
Abel bowed slightly and retreated respectfully.
Nelly remained standing there, still in shock. “Why did you have to announce it now?” she asked, pouting in dissatisfaction.
“It’s fine. They need to know your place in this house,” Matthew said gently.
“Alright then,” Nelly replied, still pouting
Matthew, in truth, really liked seeing Nelly like that.
Nelly suddenly thought of something and lifted her head, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“I don’t have any classes today. Come with me to the store! I don’t have slippers and other things here, so I need to buy them,” she said eagerly
The mention of a trip to the store made the corners of Matthew’s mouth and eyes twitch involuntarily.
He was used to his Kai handling all his essentials, leaving him without care for such errands. But for Nelly, he was willing to change all of that “Alright,” Matthew said with a nod.
Chapter 29
“Yay!” Nelly exclaimed happily, nearly jumping with excitement
Matthew looked at her with a doting smile. As long as it was something she wanted to do, he was willing to try and adapt.
After they both changed into casual clothes, they headed out to the largest department store in Megham.
Once they arrived, Nelly didn’t go to the slipper aisle as she’d mentioned. Instead, she made a beeline straight for the snacks section.
