Chapter 16
Daphne froze for a moment before her face lit up with joy. “You agree to marry me?*
Sebastian leaned casually against the doorframe with his arms crossed. “Are you that happy to
marry me?”
She was beyond thrilled.
If anyone could bring Wilson down from the top of that pyramid, it was Sebastian.
In her previous life, the two were evenly matched in their rivalry. Sebastian only lost because of
her. But if they got married in this lifetime, they would form a powerful alliance. By then, Wilson
wouldn’t stand a chance!
Daphne excitedly grabbed Sebastian’s arm and beamed, “Of course, I’m happy! I know this is my
second marriage, which might embarrass you a little. So how about we skip the wedding and any
public announcements? We can just get a marriage certificate.”
“You want to keep it a secret?” Sebastian frowned, clearly displeased. He gently traced circles on
her palm and declared, “I have no intention of hiding my marriage.”
He wasn’t into sneaking around with his wife.
However, Daphne didn’t notice his mood shift and proceeded to analyze rationally, “The public doesn’t seem to have a good opinion about us right now. If we announce our marriage too soon, they’ll definitely accuse me of cheating during my last marriage and accuse you of being a
homewrecker.
“We can wait for the right moment to go public. Otherwise, those two scumbags will benefit from
the situation!”
“Good point.” Sebastian gave some thought to it. “Come inside and let’s have a chat.”
Before Daphne could react, he pulled her into his private room
Inside, a group of men in business attire sat about each with laptops and several phones in front
of them.
She recognized one of them as Barney Myers, a computer genius Wilson had attempted but failed to poach despite offering him a large salary. Barney’s abilities were unparalleled, but his
character was extremely quirky
When Wilson was trying to hire him, he personally lew to Celestia Bay and offered him a five-
million–dollar salary, but Barney didn’t even acknowledge him. But here he was, working for
Sebastian
Before Daphne could digest her surprise, she heard Sebastian introducing to them, “This is
Daphne.”
Then, he nonchalantly told her, “These are top talents from various industries that my company
needs.
His explanation was brief, and she didn’t press for further information.
For a moment there, she thought she saw someone’s computer screen showing her photoshoots.
through the reflection of the marble walls.
The group stood up in unison and lowered their heads respectfully. “Hello, Daphne!”
The sight shocked her.
Throughout Daphne’s marriage to Wilson, she had never been treated with such respect.
She awkwardly waved her hand, hoping to look warm and friendly. “Hello, nice to meet you.
Sebastian’s lips curved into a faint grain, and he said, “Carry on. I need to speak with Daphne.”
Daphne felt a peculiar feeling stirring within her.
The Sebastian she remembered was flirtatious and as capable as Wilson. But the man standing
here in casual clothes, effortlessly blending in with his bunch of serious team, felt entirely
different.
She couldn’t recall how she even made it back home as all she remembered was him discussing marriage terms with her.
For example, they could postpone going public, but she had to meet his family first. Or that they didn’t have to perform their marriage responsibilities yet, but they couldn’t live apart. Most importantly, she had to have boundaries and not get too close to other men, particularly with
Wilson. Finally, only he could initiate a divorce.
The more Daphne thought about it, the weirder it felt
It was almost as if he had planned these conditions in advance.
She shook her head and dismissed the thought.
Even in her previous life, prior to the incident, she had little interaction with Sebastian. They first met each other on her wedding night with Wilson In a room full of people, he appeared the least delighted to be there.
However, she wasn’t surprised because he and Wilson had openly despised one other. If it weren’t. for his grandfather forcing him to attend, he probably wouldn’t have come.
Later, when she attended several events with Wilson, she crossed paths with Sebastian and they eventually became acquaintances.
But Daphne, having lived through this once, knew Sebastian a little better now. Hence, it made his
conditions feel both logical and oddly unsettling.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Ava’s abrupt call, who delivered both bad and good news.
“The fun club has calmed down the fans who were threatening to leave. They’re organizing posts. to clear your name. Although the trending topic is still up, the hashtags have become positive.”
“Huh?” Daphne blinked in surprise.
Although she hadn’t been paying much attention to her fans‘ discussions when the rumors first broke, she had looked into the fan forum, and it was total chaos there, with fans leaving in droves.
“How did things stabilize this quickly?” She found it hard to believe.
She had even prepared herself for days of backlash
Ava confidently replied, “Your fan club is incredible, especially the president. They’ve been working all day to manage the situation by organizing posts to defend and promote you. Even late
last night, they were coordinating responses.
When Daphne heard this, she felt an unexpected surge of warmth.
The president of her fan club had supported her since her debut. She had planned several meet- ups and offline events throughout the years, but the president was always too busy with work to
attend. Hence, they had never met in person.
Daphne silently vowed that once this storm passed, she would meet this loyal fan and express her
sincere gratitude.
“It’s rare that my fans are still willing to do all this for me now that I don’t have any company’s
support,” she muttered depressingly.
She felt guilty for dragging everyone down. If it hadn’t been for her failed marriage to Wilson, her
fans wouldn’t be suffering with her.
When Ava sensed the sadness in her voice, she reassured her, “Your fans are staying because of
your hard work and dedication. If you hadn’t created so many wonderful works, they wouldn’t be
defending you. They’re not stupid.”
“You’re right!” Daphne’s mood improved.
“I can’t let them down and let them fight alone. I need to fight too!”
She grabbed her recorder and opened her laptop
Wilson was too cautious while Yvonne was too cunning. There wasn’t much of the recording that she could use, but there was one key point that she could use to counter–attack. Out of the 30- minute recording, she only needed a ten–second part.
“Even if Yvonne is behind that defamatory post, I’ll still protect her and spoil her.”
Even though it was just a recording, Wilson’s deep voice was easy to identify.
