Still, its weight in gold was minuscule compared to the lavish monetary gifts Elijah had showered Yvonne with. Not to mention, he even bought her a house this month.
Honestly, Elijah’s way of apologizing to me wasn’t sincere at all.
“Elijah, you spent a million dollars on Yvonne just to comfort her. But when it’s my turn, all you can scrounge up is 30 thousand dollars, tops.”
As I spoke, I shook my head in disgust. “If I’m not mistaken, Yvonne doesn’t want this bangle anymore. That’s why you’re offering it to me, right?”
A few days ago, I came across the same post of Yvonne gloating about the lavish monetary gifts Elijah had given to her. This time, I saw the comments.

“I groomed him for a few days after that. The second time, he showered me with the million–dollar monetary gifts, including the jewelry! By the way, he even bought me a house recently.”
The Internet users were extremely envious of Yvonne.

Elijah was surprised that I knew about the bangle’s actual worth. He gazed at me in confusion after that.
“When I gave you gifts that were worth thousands of dollars in the past, you’d be happy for days. You really have changed now. I don’t like the new you.”
I folded my arms in front of my chest while scoffing at him.
“You’ve already given your love and money to the mistress in our marriage. Now that I–the free maid of your house is about to leave, you think it’ll be difficult for you to find another submissive and cheap maid to keep things neat and tidy in your house. That’s why after racking your brain, you’ve decided to give me cheap gifts just to get me to stay, huh?” I didn’t hesitate to fire back sassily.
Elijah merely gazed at me innocently.
“Jeanette, I really want to make things work out with you! Yvonne and I already broke up a week ago!”
As I gazed into Elijah’s seemingly gentle eyes, I was so pissed that I almost lost control of my temper.
I picked up my phone and scrolled to a photo that was taken in secret. It showed Yvonne and Elijah entering an elevator of an apartment block. Both of them could be seen hugging and kissing each other.
God, I almost got fooled by Elijah’s impressive acting skills once again.
Embarrassment fleeted across Elijah’s face as he stared at the photo for a few
seconds. Then, rage took over him.
“Why do you have this photo? Did you hire someone to stalk me?”
“Let’s just get divorced. You really are disgusting.”
According to the date written on the court summons, I was to return to Listovine City

to attend the trial in half a year. And I did just that.

On the night before the trial, I was having stew in a restaurant when I saw Elijah and Yvonne entering the restaurant by pure coincidence.
After Elijah got out of the car, he walked into the restaurant hurriedly.

My best friend, Alexandria Newman, grimaced immediately. She stabbed into a chunk of potato with her fork, clearly dissatisfied.
Just like her name, Alex was a straightforward and blunt woman. She was an
- extremely capable and ambitious businesswoman who happened to descend from a wealthy family.
When Alex found out about Elijah cheating on me with Yvonne, she rejected his request to collaborate with her at work.
“Elijah, I’m super strict when it comes to choosing my business partners. There are three taboos you should know about.
“Firstly, I don’t want to work with men who cheat on their spouses. Secondly, men who have shitty beauty standards are a no–go. Thirdly, useless and idiotic–men are off the list.”
Alex paused for a moment, choosing to eye Elijah up and down with a meaningful look on her face.
She concluded in a disdainful tone, “Unfortunately, you fit the bill for all three of them.”
According to Alex, Elijah’s expression had gone black as coal at that time. Still, he was unable to refute Alex after a long time.
Since my back was turned on Elijah, I couldn’t see what was going on behind me. That didn’t stop me from placing a chunk of beef in Alex’s bowl, though.
“Just ignore them. Don’t let their presence affect our appetite.”

As soon as I was done speaking, the waitress served Elijah’s table their stews. Alex took a peek at the food served.
“Tch! That’s one spicy stew! Also, Elijah’s eating while smoking at the same time! Yvonne must be at least five months pregnant by now! That bastard really doesn’t care about her condition, huh?”
I was a little dazed when I heard Alex’s words. Suddenly, I recalled the time when Elijah frequently smoked at home during my pregnancy.
Back then, I had advised him not to smoke at home. “Honey, the doctor said it’s detrimental for me to inhale too much smoke during my pregnancy. Can you please not smoke at home?”
But Elijah looked very irritated.
