Quapter 13
Although there was some distance between them, Zara could clearly hear these words.
Her face turned pale instantly.
She never expected that a casual joke would cause such a huge dispute and even reach the ears of Frederic and Mora
If it was really as they said, then there was no future for ber and Xavion in this lifetime!
But Camryn had already broken up with Xarion. It also seemed like Xavion and Zara were about to reconcile. Why had something like this gone wrong?
Zara wasn’t going to accept how things turned out. After being dragged to the door and thrown out, she suppressed the panic rising within her and sent Xavion more than ten messages, hoping to explain herself.
Time passed slowly, and soon it was dark. Still, Xarion hadn’t replied to a single message
Loolding at the blank chat screen, Zara grew increasingly uneasy.
She quickly hailed a cab to meet her girlfriends and discuss a strategy. She even reached out to Xavion’s friends along the way to gather information.
Before long, she received news that she didn’t want to hear.
“Xavion has been contacting people all afternoon, trying to find out where Camryn went after the breakup. We’ve practically turned North Jascob upside down, but there’s no trace of her anywhere. He’s losing his mind!”
Was it because of Camryn that Xavion became so restless and distraught?
The impact of this revelation hit Zara much harder than Frederic and Mora’s words earlier.
She had never imagined that a mere stand–in who had already left could cause Xerion to completely ignore her. Her unease turned into fury at that mament, and her face darkened.
After her anger subsided, she was left with nothing but scom and resentment. What was so special about Camryn anyway?
Meanwhile, after being thoroughly reprimanded, Xavion was confined to his room to reflect.
He stared intently at his phone screen, afraid he might miss any message
But every reply he received was the same.
The more replies he saw, the deeper his pain grew.
His fingers dug deep into his palms, leaving bright red marks, yet it did nothing to ease his anxiety and unesse.
He was one step away from blowing up his phone.
But no matter how thoroughly he searched–by car, rail, air, or even sea- —there was no record of Camryn’s name anywhere.
Xevion didn’t know if Camryn stayed in North Jascob or if she left the city by some other means.
He had tried contacting Camryn’s friends, but none of them were willing to take his calls. Even when they answered, it was either a cold, dismissive “I don’t know” or biting sarcasm.
Desperate and out of options, Xavion could only rack his brain for a solution. From afternoon until midnight, he didn’t rest for a single moment
Just as his frustration peaked, an old friend–someone he hadn’t spoken to in ages–suddenly sent him a message. They mentioned catching a vague glimpse of someone who looked a lot like Camryn.
Xavion couldn’t sit still any longer.
Since he couldn’t unlock the door of his room, he climbed out through the back window
Clinging to a faint hope, he rushed to the location his friend had mentioned.
But the moment he pushed the door open and saw Zara with her group of girlfriends, it was as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over his head. He felt frozen to the core.
Seeing him go to such lengths for Camryn made Zara’s expression twist with anger.
“Do you really care about Camryn that much?” She stared at him directly, her tone laced with unconcealed frustration. “She’s nothing more than my stand–in! Kavion, get a grip already!”
The word “stand in struck Xavion like a fresh wound, stirring an unrelenting ache in his chest.
His dry lips parted, and his voice came out hourse and strained. “She’s a good person. I was the one who wronged her. If you have a problem, take it out on me. Don’t make things difficult for her.”
Zara had known Navion for ten years, but this was the first time she’d ever heard him defend another wom
Her girlfriends, Indignant on her behalf, quickly joined in.
“Xavion, what’s that supposed to mean? Are you seriously going to abandon Zara for some nobody?
won
ti Zara only just decided to torgive you. If you keep acting like this and make her upset again, you’re going to regret it!”
“That woman’s just a cheap stand–in! What’s the big deal if you’ve broken up? Is it really worth making such a huge fuss over? Can’t you see that Zara’s
