Chapter 99: Starting a New Relationship
Watching the way the three of them chatted, Julian felt an uncomfortable pang. They seemed like old friends, very familiar with each other. Yet, Mia had never shown him any warmth; her
attitude was even worse than Daniel’s.
This realization made Julian feel even more unsettled. He had been with Chloe for a long time, yet Mia had never given him a single approving glance. Now, Daniel was merely pursuing Chloe and was receiving such preferential treatment.
Thinking about it, he felt he had been shortchanged in the past.
What bothered Julian the most was Daniel’s behavior. He wasn’t blind; he could see that Daniel had deliberately initiated the conversation, clearly trying to establish a connection between himself and Chloe, especially with Mia. After all, Mia could represent Chloe’s views to some extent. If he could win Mia’s favor, pursuing Chloe would be much easier.
“However, there are quite a few mosquitoes around. I didn’t sleep well last night. Remember to ask the hotel to prepare some mosquito repellent for you. I’ve brought some, too; I’ll get it for you shortly. But how about we go have dinner now?” Daniel said, addressing the issue of their evening environment, which made Mia feel even more pleased.
Before this, they hadn’t even considered the mosquito problem. Now that it was mentioned, Mia realized it was indeed important.
As the three of them walked together, they completely ignored Julian and Layla, as if the two
were expendable strangers.
Julian was sure Daniel wouldn’t miss an opportunity to make an impression on Chloe and Mia, so he decided to follow. But just as he took a couple of steps, Daniel abruptly stopped and apologized to Chloe and Mia.
“I’m really sorry. I just remembered I forgot something. You two go ahead; I’ll catch up you in a bit.”

Daniel’s polite tone left no room for refusal, and both Chloe and Mia readily accepted, moving ahead quickly toward the restaurant.
Daniel waited for a moment until he was sure Chloe and Mia were out of sight before turning
to Julian.
When Julian heard Daniel’s earlier comment, he knew Daniel had something to discuss. So he stayed put, curious about what Daniel had to say.
“You deliberately found an excuse to send them away, right?” Julian asked.
Daniel’s expression turned serious. He glanced at Layla before saying to Julian, “I have
something to tell you. Come with me: I need to speak with vou privately.”

Without giving Julian a chance to refuse, Daniel stepped aside. Though uncomfortable, Julian followed, eager to hear what Daniel wanted to discuss.
Sitting in the restaurant, Mia gradually realized that Chloe’s attitude had been noticeably different when greeting Daniel.
Especially compared to how she treated Julian, it highlighted the difference in Chloe’s demeanor toward Daniel.
“What’s going on? I saw it clearly just now; your attitude toward Daniel was completely different. Are you planning to start a new relationship? I don’t know much about Daniel, but he seems quite gentlemanly lately. I think you could give it a try. Of course, it’s fine to date casually; there’s no need to take it too seriously. After all, they’re both friends, and their personalities are probably similar. Switching it up after a while could be good, too,” Mia said.
Hearing this, Chloe felt helpless. “What are you thinking? I was just being polite; why are you reading so much into it? And I already told you, he helped me out a lot and even got a lawyer for my case. I’m very grateful to him. It wouldn’t be right to act cold toward him. Please don’t say things like this; I really don’t have any feelings for him. If you keep talking like this, people might misunderstand and think I have a crush on him.”
While Chloe’s reasoning was sound, Mia still felt disappointed. She had always hoped that Chloe would let go of the past and start anew.
So when she noticed the change in Chloe’s attitude toward Daniel, she couldn’t help but wish for something different between them.
But since Chloe had said this, Mia decided not to press the issue. “Alright, I’m just saying. Since you’ve made up your mind, I won’t say anything more. This breakfast is quite tasty; you should try it and eat more.”
“Got it. You should eat more too; don’t blindly diet just for your figure. You look great as you are,” Chloe replied with a smile.
At the end of the hallway, Julian and Daniel stood by a window. Julian, feeling irritated, looked at Daniel, puzzled about what he wanted to discuss.
“What do you want to tell me that we couldn’t just discuss standing there?”
“I wanted to talk about what happened with Chloe yesterday. I’ve arranged for someone to help her with the cross–border lawsuit. If all goes well, everything should be sorted out this month. But…”
Daniel began to explain the situation, intending to share his findings, including Chloe’s.
However, he was abruptly interrupted by Julian, who was growing impatient.
“If you brought me here just to brag about how much you’ve helped her, that’s unnecessary.
de Starting a New Belationship
No matter how much you do for her, she’s not going to look at you differently. Plus, you don’t need to share this with me. You’re not going to win Chloe over, and I won’t consider you a close friend either.”
Hearing this, Daniel felt uncomfortable. Was Julian out of his mind?
He hadn’t even finished speaking before Julian started venting his frustration. What was his brain even for?
