Chapter 98: Lucky Indeed
From the moment Julian met Chloe, he knew her emotions were always stable. No matter how many arguments they had, Chloe never lost her temper to the point of irrationality. Instead, she would take the initiative to communicate once things had cooled down, ensuring that their issues were resolved promptly. She never made a fuss over trivial matters, and their relationship had always been like this.
Because of this, Julian often felt that Chloe handled their relationship with an unusual level of calm. To him, it seemed normal for anyone to lose their composure during emotional moments, But Chloe never did; she always maintained her rationality, whether she was angry or sad, articulating her feelings with clarity.
He could also sense that Chloe’s emotional fluctuations were never due to him. They always stemmed from other people, which led him to question whether Chloe truly loved him. Why else would she never show jealousy or strong emotions over things that involved him?
Chloe was always so indifferent, so calm in handling everything. She seemed devoid of any emotional side. In contrast, Layla was different.
Layla’s focus was always on him, and her emotions shifted based on his actions or words. Every little thing he did would cause her to think deeply, which gave Julian a sense of
achievement and control that he never felt with Chloe.
With Layla, he experienced a sense of need and being needed, something he never felt when he was with Chloe. He understood that this feeling of need wasn’t the same as affection, yet he still liked Chloe. There was still a place for Chloe in his heart; he just couldn’t accept her emotionless demeanor calmly.
Every time Layla looked at him with admiration and adoration, Julian felt a thrill. It made him realize how important he was to her. As they drew closer, he couldn’t help but entertain different thoughts, complicating their relationship even more.
Julian didn’t deny that, as a man, he craved a woman’s admiration. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find that in Chloe and had to seek it elsewhere.
As he walked outside, his thoughts shifted from the past to the present. After spending so much time with Layla, he felt he could derive the emotional value he desired from her. Yet something was still missing in their relationship, although he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
Suddenly, he stopped, his gaze fixed on two people not far ahead. Ice–cold anger filled his eyes. He hadn’t expected to casually encounter Chloe and Daniel while out for a walk.
Seeing them together made him extremely uncomfortable, as if a treasured possession of his had been discovered by others. They were sitting together, chatting, and he could see that Chloe was genuinely happy. The sight of her smile made him feel even worse; she had never smiled like that at him.
Chapter 98: cucky indeed
He stood there fuming, completely unaware that Layla had followed him outside. Layla had just put on a face mask and rushed out when Julian left unexpectedly. She had been trying to present her best self in front of Julian, carefully dressing up whenever they went out, including now, when she had quickly changed into a pretty dress to chase after him.
Finally catching up to Julian, she was about to ask why he was standing there, but as she approached, she spotted Chloe and Daniel in front of her.
Her expression shifted slightly but quickly returned to a mask of calm confusion as she joined Julian’s side.
“Are you watching Chloe? I didn’t know she and Daniel were so close. Look, they’re sitting together drinking and chatting so late. Their relationship seems quite good,” she said.
After Layla’s words, she felt the air around Julian grow tense. It seemed he was becoming increasingly irritable, but Layla, oblivious to this, continued, “When I first saw them from a distance, I thought they were a couple. It’s a bit surprising to find it’s just Chloe and Daniel. But still, it’s quite a coincidence. They seem to match well together, don’t you think?”
“I wonder if Daniel came here for Chloe. Are they on a date, or is one of them pursuing the other?”
Her admiring gaze and comments about the two seemed casual, but upon closer inspection, they felt off.
Julian’s expression turned colder, and he turned to Layla. She quickly covered her mouth, looking innocent as she met his gaze.
“Did I say something wrong? I didn’t mean anything by it; I was just speculating. But it’s really windy and cold tonight,” she added, trying to lighten the mood.
With a smile on her face, she rubbed her arms, having forgotten to grab her shawl in her haste to follow Julian. She looked at him hopefully, wishing he would take off his jacket and drape it over her shoulders.
However, Julian seemed to ignore her entirely, his focus still locked on Chloe and Daniel.
Seeing him like this made Layla feel uneasy. Why was he looking at Chloe that way? They had no connection anymore.
“It’s really cold tonight. Let’s go back,” she suggested, adopting a pitiful and innocent demeanor as she looked up at him, hoping he might consider her feelings. She gently tugged.
at his sleeve.
Julian glanced down, pulling his arm away without saying a word, and turned to leave.
