Chapter 92: The Accident
Mia was more experienced than Chloe, so she descended faster. Chloe watched as Mia disappeared into the depths, and at that moment, the instructor signaled to them, indicating that they had reached about 50 meters underwater.
Chloe couldn’t see Mia, but she wasn’t too worried. She knew Mia was experienced and likely exploring nearby. Gradually, Chloe began to relax and observe the underwater world around her.
Since it was her first time diving, she was amazed to see small fish swimming by, and she even reached out her hand to touch them.
In addition to the little fish, various sea creatures appeared–animals she had only seen on TV or in news reports, now vividly before her eyes.
Seeing them in person was an entirely different experience.
As she took in her surroundings, Chloe’s initial nervousness finally dissipated. Just as the instructor had said, it was a beautiful underwater world, and they were meant to enjoy it.
Chloe began to swim faster, although she was still a bit slower compared to Mia.
While Mia swam quickly, her attention remained on Chloe. She would frequently glance back, relieved to see Chloe safely behind her, allowing her to continue exploring.
After swimming a short distance, Mia turned back and swam to Chloe’s side, taking her hand and leading her forward.
Chloe was surprised by Mia’s gesture but didn’t question it, trusting that Mia wouldn’t lead her into trouble. So, she followed Mia as they moved ahead.
They arrived at a vibrant coral reef, and Chloe was astonished by the stunning array of colors.
Seeing such beauty in person was far more impactful than watching it on television.
The vibrant colors and clusters of coral felt like a portal to another world.
As she gazed into the vast expanse, Chloe realized she couldn’t see the end of the coral reef,
which hinted at its immense size.
Schools of brightly colored fish swam through the corals, creating a breathtaking visual.
Chloe understood in that moment just how beautiful the underwater world was, and she could see why so many people wanted to dive again and again.
Anyone in her position would feel the same, as she too had quickly fallen in love with diving.
As Chloe swam through a circular opening in the coral, she suddenly spotted a starfish. Just as she reached out to grab it, she noticed a shadow pass overhead. Looking up, she was shocked
Chapter 92 The Accident
to see a shark.
The sudden appearance of the shark frightened Chloe. After all, it was a massive creature, and they were supposed to be in a safe, shallow area this shouldn’t be happening.
The moment she saw the shark, fear washed over her.
This apex predator loomed in front of her, its size instilling deep fear in Chloe.
Instinctively, she wanted to avoid disturbing the shark and planned to move to a safer location before it noticed her. However, as she began to move, she startled the nearby fish, which in turn startled the shark.
As she shifted, the shark also moved swiftly in her direction.
Chloe was scared, but she forced herself to stay calm, searching for a safe spot. She quickly spotted a cave nearby where she could hide.
She accelerated her swimming toward the cave.
Just as she felt the shark was about to swallow her, she dove into the dark opening.
At the moment she entered the cave, the shark collided violently against the entrance, creating a loud crash.
Chloe’s heart raced, and she felt the vibrations continue as the shark struck again, this time hitting her arm and causing immediate pain and numbness.
But Chloe couldn’t move; she had to wait.
She couldn’t afford to make sudden movements; what if she drew attention to herself? All she
could do was hope the shark would leave soon.
When the shark finally swam away, Chloe felt a wave of relief but quickly realized something
was off.
Breathing became increasingly difficult; the oxygen felt sparse, and cold sweat began to form on her forehead.
Suddenly, Chloe recognized the seriousness of the situation. The instructor had mentioned that one oxygen tank could last three hours.
However, she hadn’t even been underwater for an hour; how could she be running out of air?
She could feel that each breath was becoming a struggle, indicating that her oxygen was depleting much faster than anticipated, suggesting a problem with her tank.
Just as panic set in, the shark finally swam away.
She couldn’t afford to waste any time; she immediately began swimming upwards while signaling with her hands, trying every possible way to communicate with those above.
Chapter 92 The Accident
To ensure safety, they had installed a rescue button on each diving device, which could alert lifeguards on the beach.
However, despite her signals and pressing the button, there was no response. Chloe didn’t know what was happening on the surface, but she knew she had to rely on herself for survival.
With no other option, she swam desperately upwards. If she didn’t make it to the surface, she knew her life could end here. She lost track of time, as the rapid depletion of oxygen left her gasping for air.
The more she tried to ascend, the more her body seemed to pull her downward.
Though fear filled her heart, she clung to hope–if she could just reach the surface, even a little, she could survive. But the oxygen was no longer enough to support her ascent.
