Chapter 88: The Devious White Rabbit
After Chloe spoke, she reflected on her earlier actions and Layla’s gaze, feeling a sense of helplessness. Julian’s earlier move had sparked a hint of hostility in Layla’s eyes, and she didn’t want to be anyone’s enemy, nor did she want Layla to view her as one.
In truth, she didn’t care how Julian and Layla interacted. What happened between them was outside her concern; she simply wanted to live her life peacefully. Julian’s behavior, however, was completely inappropriate. If he was with Layla, he should treat that relationship seriously.
He had treated Chloe poorly, so he should at least be kinder to Layla and avoid making their relationship awkward.
“Also, you have a girlfriend now. Since you’re in a relationship, please treat your girlfriend better. Don’t make her feel that being with you is a mistake. If you’ve chosen to be with her, then take it seriously. Don’t repeat the mistakes you made with me with someone else. That’s just not right.”
As soon as Chloe finished speaking, the lights at the dance party dimmed again. Julian panicked for a moment, instinctively reaching for Chloe’s hand. But Chloe had already stepped back the moment the lights went out, using her memory to navigate towards the less crowded area and ultimately leaving the venue.
When a spotlight hit, Chloe’s figure was nowhere to be seen; she had left so quickly that Julian found it hard to accept. Why couldn’t he have another chance?
Meanwhile, Daniel and Layla were dancing together, both appearing uninterested. They had no intention of enjoying each other’s company, and when they saw Julian and Chloe dancing, they remained silent, their eyes filled with animosity.
Later, as they saw Chloe leave, especially when she did so voluntarily, both of them laughed. It was a shared sense of satisfaction, one stemming from Chloe’s exit and the other from Julian’s predicament.
Though they were facing different situations, their goals were essentially aligned.
Daniel, having known Julian for many years, understood him better than anyone else. Julian had never been one to lower his pride, but if he did, it would be in a calculated way—perhaps an apology, but he wouldn’t genuinely change his ways.
In the past, Chloe might have given him more chances, but now she wouldn’t even glance at him again.
“Seeing Julian in such a bad spot seems to make you happy,” Layla suddenly remarked, her tone eerily calm, devoid of any emotion. Her expression, however, didn’t seem as innocent as
before.
Having spent more time in the business world, she realized that some people appeared naive

but had deeper motives. This woman was one of them.
Julian probably didn’t even notice this.

Daniel raised an eyebrow, having previously looked down on Layla, believing she had merely put in some effort to rise through the ranks. Now, however, he found the situation amusing.
“It seems I underestimated you. But you’re right; seeing Julian suffer does indeed make me happy. Aren’t you happy too? I’d imagine your goal is even clearer than mine–you want to be by Julian’s side, right?”
Layla didn’t deny this, nodding earnestly. “Yes, I worked hard to be near him. Now that I’ve achieved that, I don’t want anything to go wrong. I hope everything you do here is successful; it’ll help fulfill both our wishes.”
“You’re right. I hope you succeed as well.”
A genuine smile appeared on Layla’s face. “Thank you. You should go find Chloe now.”
Daniel raised an eyebrow, nodded with a smile, and turned to leave. As he passed by Julian, he felt a twinge of sympathy, thinking he had found a naive little rabbit, but little did he know that this rabbit was quite devious.
Sometimes, if you provoke a rabbit, it might bite back. He wondered if Julian would regret not cherishing what he had once he learned the truth, but that was no longer his concern; someone else would appreciate what Julian had taken for granted.
As he walked past Julian, the latter suddenly grabbed his wrist, his eyes sharp and cold. “I’m telling you, stay away from her.”
Daniel was taken aback, laughing in disbelief, “Who do you think you are to say that to me? Maybe you should think about the fact that you have a girlfriend too. What I do is none of your business.”
“It doesn’t matter if I have a girlfriend; I have more legitimacy than you. At least we’ve been together before.”
Daniel replied, “You’re right; you were together. But I’m not like you, clinging to an ex while dating someone new. You say you love your ex, but you’re hot and heavy with your new girlfriend. What gives you the right?
Regardless, whether it was him or Julian, there was no real difference in their actions. “Oh wait, maybe I’m slightly better, at least I haven’t done anything to hurt her.‘
Daniel
Darul didn’t even want to recount Julian’s past actions; he knew how embarrassing they were. At this point, neither of them was better than the other.

Listening to Daniel, Julian glared at him, but in the end, he didn’t say anything as he watched him leave through the emergency exit
He took a deep breath, repeatedly reminding himself that Chloe would no longer show him
