Chapter 82: Arrived First
Since that mistake happened between them, Julian and Layla had only met twice. During that time, Layla had tried several times to see Julian and hoped for something more, but he always rejected her.
He actively kept his distance, making her feel very anxious. She was uncertain about Julian’s feelings, especially knowing he had no shortage of women around him. It had taken a lot for her to come this far among so many competitors.
Layla was worried that someone else might catch Julian’s attention, but receiving news that he had been quite busy lately made her happy, as it suggested he wasn’t ignoring her on purpose. This was also a good opportunity for her.
She could use this chance to get closer to him.
This was her first trip abroad, and as soon as the plane landed, she couldn’t help but take out her phone to capture the moment. Naturally, she wanted Julian in the picture, but when he sensed this, he turned slightly away.
It seemed he didn’t want to interrupt her photo–taking, but in reality, he just didn’t want to be in the same photo with Layla.
“Can we take a picture together? It’s our first time traveling this far together; it’s definitely worth commemorating,” she suggested eagerly.
Layla had even told her roommates about this trip. They were envious, and she wanted to show them that her relationship with Julian was growing stronger. This photo would serve as proof, a kind of weapon for her. But Julian didn’t respond to her enthusiasm
“I’m not interested in photos. You can take them yourself, but don’t include me,” he said flatly.
Julian showed no enthusiasm. He and Chloe had never thought about taking pictures together during their years together; in fact, they had very few photos. He didn’t even know if those photos still existed.
Since he and Chloe rarely took photos, why would he take one with Layla?
Seeing his disinterest, Layla stopped pushing. If he wouldn’t come into the picture, maybe some of his belongings could be included–like his watch or cufflinks.
Though her pride was hurt, she quickly adjusted her mood.
Once they checked into the hotel, as they were heading toward the elevator, they suddenly saw Daniel. In that moment, Julian’s expression became somewhat guarded.
It wasn’t surprising for Daniel to be there; Julian knew he would come, just a matter of when. This time, Daniel had arrived two days early and had found Chloe’s whereabouts.

Today, he had dressed up to create a chance encounter with Chloe.
However, there was no need to share his plans with Julian; it wouldn’t serve any purpose.
Julian watched Daniel swagger up to him with a casual greeting.
“Hey, long time no see! Here for a vacation, huh? And you brought your girlfriend. Looks like things are going well for you two,” Daniel said, intentionally mentioning Layla.
As soon as he said Layla’s name, Julian’s expression grew colder.
If it weren’t for his team’s blunder, Layla wouldn’t even be here.
“What does it matter to you how well things are going between us? You dropped everything to come here, and you seem more relaxed than I imagined,” Julian shot back.
“Yes, the weather is lovely here. I just got here a day earlier than you. I’ve met the people I needed to see, so take your time getting settled. I’ll be off,” Daniel replied, looking nonchalant. Seeing him act so cocky made Julian even more uncomfortable. Layla, observing closely, sensed the tension.
Not daring to say anything, she feared getting caught up in the situation. She guessed Julian had never intended to bring her along in the first place. Why else would his expression change so drastically upon hearing Daniel’s words?
Still, she didn’t think Daniel’s efforts would lead to anything good. She knew that as long as she was around and given their past as friends, Chloe would not treat him kindly.
Winning over Chloe wouldn’t be easy. Of course, she had been worried about this before coming, but seeing Daniel eased those worries.
Once Julian calmed down, he headed upstairs, and Layla followed silently, increasingly uncomfortable.
What did that last comment mean?
Was Julian planning to handle this alone and not bring her along? Why had he even invited her?
Could this really just be about tourism? Something felt off.
More importantly, he had run into Daniel. His presence raised suspicions–could Chloe be here too?
Otherwise, how could they both end up in the same place?
She couldn’t wrap her head around it, and as Julian entered their room, she stood frozen as the door closed in front of her.
Looking at the key card in her hand, she realized it was for the adjacent room. Julian clearly

hadn’t planned for them to share, and had he just been venting his frustrations at her earlier?
Layla felt a wave of uncertainty wash over her. They weren’t here to take her on vacation; they had come to see Chloe, hadn’t they?
With that thought, she trembled. How had things turned out this way?
Back in her room, Layla felt she needed to take action during this time. If Chloe and Julian reconciled, she would be completely left out.
