Chapter 78: Don’t Delude Yourself
After getting out of the car, Julian started walking aimlessly, though he was very familiar with this place. Back when he was chasing Chloe, he spent every day here.
It wasn’t just at the school entrance; he’d wait for her near her classrooms too. He used to spend hours waiting for Chloe, sometimes seeing her quickly, other times not at all, no matter how long he waited.
He often wasted entire days here, but he didn’t mind back then. Just being close to Chloe filled him with excitement and motivation, even if he didn’t get to see her.
Somewhere along the way, however, his feelings for Chloe began to change in a way he couldn’t quite
understand.
He had succeeded in winning her over, yet the events that followed left him feeling heartbroken.
As he passed through the alley, he found himself standing outside Chloe’s apartment again. The last time he was here, he had hesitated and ended up causing an inappropriate scene.
This time, though, he felt no hesitation. He walked straight to her door.
The apartment building was old and rundown, with flickering streetlights that only added to the dreary atmosphere. Julian stepped on some garbage by accident, grimacing in disgust. The smell and condition of the place made him extremely uncomfortable.
Suppressing his frustration, he finally reached Chloe’s door and knocked forcefully.
“Chloe, it’s me. Open the door.”
“I know you’re home. Let’s talk. Open the door, we really need to talk.”
He kept knocking, but just like last time, there was no response from inside.
His knocking grew louder, but he knew Chloe hated it when he acted this way. So, after a while, he stopped, instead calling out loudly:
“I know you’re in there. Why won’t you open the door? Can’t we talk about this? Is it that you really don’t want to see me? Do you think just because you don’t open the door, I can’t get in?”
His voice shifted from pleading to threatening, his patience wearing thin.
Finally, when he couldn’t yell anymore, he turned to leave, only to run into Wyatt.
At this late hour, there was no doubt why Wyatt was here. Julian suddenly remembered the day he and Daniel had fought, and neither had come out on top.
Chloe had left with Wyatt afterward, and just thinking about it made Julian tremble with anger. Seeing Wyatt now only intensified his rage, which he couldn’t hide from his eyes.
Last time, Julian hadn’t taken Wyatt seriously, thinking it was just a coincidence. After all, Chloe knowing Wyatt wasn’t that strange.
But now, seeing Wyatt here at this time and place, Julian couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
“You came to see Chloe?” Julian asked, even though his tone made it more of a statement than a question.
Wyatt remained calm, not reacting much to Julian’s words.
“No matter why you came, it won’t matter. You know Chloe and I have a history. If I were you, I wouldn’t do something that could cause misunderstandings.”

“So, let me give you some advice: stay away from Chloe, or you’ll end up hurting yourself,” Julian warned.
Wyatt smirked. “That’s interesting. Whatever my relationship with Chloe is, it has nothing to do with you. And as for your advice, I don’t really care. I’ll decide who I want to be close to, and that’s none of your
business.”
Julian’s expression darkened. “Don’t kid yourself. Even if she treats you differently now, so what? She was mine before, and she will be mine again. That’s never going to change. Don’t think too highly of yourself. As soon as I want her back, she’ll come right back to me,” he declared arrogantly.
Wyatt felt a wave of irritation at Julian’s words. Throughout the conversation, Julian had shown no respect for Chloe, treating her as if she were an object.
He hadn’t considered Chloe’s feelings at all.
Wyatt felt both speechless and angry. He suddenly realized how much of Chloe’s time and energy had been wasted on someone like Julian.
“First of all, she’s a person, not anyone’s possession. You need to stop deluding yourself. Chloe doesn’t belong to anyone but herself. If you can’t even respect her, how can you expect her to want to be with you? Stop dreaming!” Wyatt said coldly.
Julian laughed mockingly. “Oh, professor, it seems like all your studying has made you a bit naive when it comes to women. What good is all that knowledge? The only reason Chloe and I are in this mess is because she still cares about me. If she didn’t, why won’t she speak to me or even look at me?” Julian said smugly.
Wyatt didn’t respond to his arrogance. He simply stared at Julian, silent and unimpressed.
Seeing Wyatt’s silence, Julian thought he’d hit the mark. With a sneer, he continued, “You couldn’t get her/ to open the door either. You think you’re any different from me? Sooner or later, Chloe will come back to me. You’re wasting your time going after something that doesn’t belong to you.”
With that, Julian turned and walked away, leaving Wyatt standing there in silence.
Wyatt glanced at Chloe’s tightly shut door and sighed.
Julian had said one thing that was true: even if Wyatt knocked, Chloe wouldn’t answer.
Because Chloe wasn’t home tonight. She wasn’t there to open the door for anyone.
With a sigh of resignation, Wyatt decided not to linger any longer. There wasn’t much more to say.
