Chapter 72: He Said He’s Serious
In the past, Daniel hadn’t done anything out of respect for Julian. Now that they were no longer friends, why should he care what Julian thought? Daniel just wanted to pursue what he desired–was that so wrong?
All his life, Daniel knew that whenever he wanted something, he would stop at nothing to get it, no matter how difficult it might be. But emotions, especially love, were complicated. Everyone in their social circle knew about his close relationship with Julian, and their families had frequent business dealings. If Daniel
and Chloe would bear the brunt of it.
really got together with Chloe, people would undoubtedly gossin
Adam voiced his concern: “Look, I just think you shouldn’t pursue Chloe anymore. She’s never going to fall for you, and even if she did, it would bring her a lot of trouble. It would be more complicated than when she was with Julian.”
Adam wasn’t wrong. Chloe had always been the kind of person who gave her all when she was in love, but when she wasn’t interested, no amount of effort could change her mind. Now that Julian and Daniel had fallen out over her, it was even messier.
The fact that they both liked the same woman was humiliating in their circle. It was clear to everyone that their friendship was over. After Chloe left that night, she didn’t know that Julian and Daniel had made it clear: where one attended, the other would not show up. This left their friends in an awkward position, as neither of the families involved was someone they dared to offend.
The feud hadn’t reached their parents yet, which was a relief. If the elders found out, it would be much harder to resolve. Most people didn’t even know what caused their fallout. Some speculated it was over a business disagreement; others thought it was due to differing values. But those who knew the truth- that it was all because of Chloe–were at a loss for words.
If word got out, and Chloe actually ended up with Daniel, she would be talked about relentlessly. Chloe hated being the subject of gossip, and that was why she was even less likely to accept Daniel’s feelings.
Many people had come to Adam for information, but he wasn’t about to spill anything. Despite Adam’s logical argument, Daniel was unfazed. He was determined to get what he wanted, no matter the cost- even if it meant forcing things to happen.
After leaving the café, Chloe headed to the mall to buy a new coat. The weather was getting colder, and she felt it was necessary to prepare. After that, she went to the grocery store to pick up some food. It was getting dark quickly, and the temperature dropped as night fell.
Chloe hurried home with her bags. By the time she reached her apartment building, it was completely dark. Suddenly, a shadow rushed toward her, startling her. She instinctively turned to run, but the person grabbed her wrist.
She screamed in fear, but under the streetlight, she saw it wasn’t a stranger or a threat–it was Julian. Julian reeked of alcohol and cigarettes, his clothes disheveled. Chloe was repelled by the smell and immediately yanked her wrist free, stepping back to put distance between them.
Though Julian had drunk a lot, standing in the cold outside had sobered him up a bit. He didn’t want to seem too clear–headed, so he clung to the last bit of his drunkenness and grabbed Chloe’s wrist again, this time refusing to let go no matter how much she struggled.
“Let go of me!” Chloe shouted.
She found herself increasingly repelled by any physical contact with Julian. Just being near him made her

uncomfortable, and this moment was no different.
Julian shook his head. “I’ll never let go. Come back to me. Please. If you come back to me, I’ll let go.”
Hearing his words, Chloe suddenly stopped struggling and stared at him. Her face showed a calm determination.

“I’ve noticed you’ve been acting crazier and crazier lately. If drinking is making you you quit because when you’re sober, you’d never do something like this.”

“I am sober! I know exactly what I’m doing. Even tomorrow, when I’ve fully sobered up, thing. Please, come back to me. I need you.”
Another “serious” plea.

Chloe couldn’t help but chuckle to herself. It seemed everyone who hung out with Julian shared the same personality. The things they said were always so similar, but to her, it was laughable.
“But I don’t see the point,” Chloe said, shaking her head and rejecting him.
Julian took a deep breath and looked at her. “I know what you’re thinking. You think that if we get back together, you’ll just be the other woman. You don’t need to worry about that. I’ve already thought this through before coming here. I’ve broken up with Layla. If we get back together, things will be the same as before, Nothing will change. We’ll forget everything that happened and start fresh. I promise I won’t do anything to hurt you again.
“As for what I said yesterday… I know I went too far. I wasn’t thinking. You can yell at me, hit me if you
want, I deserve it.”
