Chapter 56: Come Back
Chloe was well aware of Arctic Biotech Research Company. It was internationally renowned, with its own labs, cutting–edge equipment, and vast support.
Everyone in the industry was desperate to get into this company.
If she remembered correctly, this tech company was owned by Wyatt’s family.
When he mentioned it before, it seemed he had done so deliberately.
“As for your grades, I have no worries at all. What you’re lacking is lab experience, but I believe you’ll catch up soon,” Professor Lauren said.
She knew exactly where Chloe’s strengths lay. Once Chloe filled in the gaps in her experience, there wouldn’t be any major issues.
Chloe had never really spent time in a lab. She wasn’t familiar with the equipment.
These things required time and practice, along with natural talent.
Why else would Wyatt spend so much time in the lab?
Only through practice would Chloe’s skills improve, and experience would come slowly.
Looking at Chloe, Professor Lauren added, “I’ve always believed in your abilities. It’s never too late to start.”
Chloe nodded firmly.
“As for the grad school exam, I’m not worried about you. Just make sure you master all the material,” Professor Lauren said, handing Chloe more resources.
The professor had been working on an experiment from the moment it was initiated, but there still hadn’t
been a result.
In fact, her initial plan was to bring Chloe into the project. The reason this project existed in the first place was because of Chloe.
Everything had been prepared for Chloe; it was practically tailored to her.
Even though it had taken years, what was meant for Chloe had finally come to her, and the difficulties along the way no longer mattered.
Chloe had always known how much her professor cared about her. Whether it was in her studies or personal life, she was determined not to disappoint her this time.
After returning home, Chloe dove into the materials.
If preparing for grad school was a challenge, then the documents she held were even more daunting.
They contained a lot of experimental procedures and results, which were difficult for Chloe to grasp due to her lack of lab experience.
But she was captivated by it all, so much so that she lost track of time. By the time she realized it, it was already past midnight.
Rubbing her eyes, Chloe was about to head to bed when a loud knock startled her.
“Chloe, open the door! I know you’re in there. Open up!”

This apartment bullding wasn’t as soundproof as it seemed. Any little noise from outside could be heard
inside.
Hearing the familiar voice outside, Chloe instinctively didn’t want to respond.
But the knocking didn’t stop, and it showed no sign of letting up.
Suddenly, memories of what had happened at the villa flashed through Chloe’s mind, and fear crept into
her heart.
“Chloe, open the door!”
“Can you hear me?”
“Chloe…”
The voice outside kept echoing in her ears, and Chloe pressed her hands over them, hoping her silence would make him leave. But after a long time, the knocking still hadn’t stopped.
The other residents in the building were starting to get annoyed.
“Are you crazy, knocking on doors in the middle of the night?”
“Who’s banging on the door? If you don’t stop, I’m coming over to teach you a lesson!”
“Shut up already! Just because you don’t want to sleep doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t!”
People had started shouting curses. Chloe sighed, feeling dizzy from the stress. She had no choice but to
go and open the door. She couldn’t let Julian disturb the entire building.
She opened the door just a crack and glared at Julian, who was visibly angry. “What are you doing banging on my door in the middle of the night like a lunatic?”
Seeing her, Julian let out a sigh of relief. He had known she was inside.
“I knew you were home.”
“So what does that have to do with you?” Chloe snapped.
“Let me in. I need to talk to you,” Julian insisted.
“You’re clearly not well. We have nothing to do with each other anymore, so why should I let you in?”
Chloe was about to close the door when Julian threatened, “If you don’t let me in, I’ll keep knocking until you do.”
Hearing his shameless words, Chloe bit her lip, holding back her anger. Finally, she opened the door.
As soon as she did, Julian pushed his way inside, not giving her a chance to change her mind. This was his only opportunity.
As he stepped in, Chloe caught the scent of alcohol on him. His face was flushed, and he seemed unsteady on his feet. Chloe backed away a few steps, unsure of what he intended to do.
Julian stared at her with a dazed expression.
Neither of them spoke.
“Can you come back to me?” Julian asked, breaking the silence.
Chloe simply shook her head. It would never happen.
“Stop dreaming. We can never go back to how things were,” Chloe said coldly. “We’ve been going back
and forth for months. Isn’t that enough? How much longer are you going to keep this up?”

“Do you really think I’m still playing games with you? I’m telling you, we’re done,” Chloe added firmly.
Julian was silent for a moment, then his anger flared. “Don’t push me too far!”
He shouted, breathing heavily as he tried to calm himself. “You let me in, didn’t you? That means there’s still a chance for us, right? Just tell me what you want. Whatever it is, I can do it, as long as you come back to me.”
Julian couldn’t understand. He had already backed down as much as he could. What more did Chloe
want?
But Chloe just laughed coldly.
“You’ve got it all wrong. I only let you in because you were disturbing everyone’s sleep. I didn’t want the neighbors to complain. That’s the only reason.”
