Chapter 55: In a Great Mood
After hanging up the phone, Chloe squeezed through the crowd and exited the subway station.
As she stepped outside, the cold wind hit her, making her shiver. The weather was getting colder by the day.
Suddenly, someone gently tapped her on the shoulder. Chloe turned around, surprised to see it was Wyatt.
“Why are you here?” she asked, a little startled.
“I was just heading home. The weather’s too bad for driving, so I took the subway,” Wyatt explained.
The two of them walked together, chatting as they headed out. Knowing that today was exam day, Wyatt asked, “How did the test go?”
Chloe’s eyes curved into a smile. “Pretty good, actually. It went smoothly.”
From her confident look, Wyatt could tell she felt assured about her performance. He smiled but didn’t say much.
It was winter, and the days got dark early. Though they had left fairly early, the streetlights were already
- on.
On their way home, they passed a bustling shopping street where many people were out buying things.
Seeing the lively scene, Chloe couldn’t help but feel a bit lifted. She had been so busy studying for her exams lately that she hadn’t had time to enjoy life.
“Look how happy they are,” Chloe said, watching the cheerful crowd.
Wyatt thought that while he didn’t know how happy those people were, he could certainly sense that Chloe was in a very good mood.
They chatted and laughed all the way home, arriving at around 7 PM.
Once inside, the warmth of the house made Chloe feel like she had come back to life. She changed into comfortable clothes and sat down in her study.
There were several books on her desk. As she tidied them up, she found one that she had borrowed from
Wyatt.
Since she was done with her exams, it was time to return the book. She walked over to Wyatt’s door and
knocked.
Wyatt had just finished his shower and came out of the bathroom when he heard the knock. He walked over to open the door.
Chloe handed him the book. “Here’s the book you lent me. I kept forgetting to return it, but luckily I saw you today.”
Wyatt took the book from her hand. The faint scent of his body wash lingered in the air, filling Chloe’s
senses.
As he took the book, Wyatt noticed that it was full of sticky notes, Chloe’s study notes. He recognized her handwriting.
There were also little doodles on the pages, all encouraging herself to keep going.
At first, Chloe hadn’t realized this, but when she saw Wyatt noticing, she felt a bit embarrassed. She quickly peeled the sticky notes off, smiling awkwardly.

“Well, sometimes people need a little encouragement,” she said.
Wyatt chuckled at her words.
Chloe swiftly changed the topic. “Do you have time soon? I’d like to treat you to a meal to thank you for all your help these past weeks.”
Between her exam prep and other things, Wyatt had been a huge help to her, and she wanted to show her gratitude properly.
Seeing how serious Chloe was, Wyatt didn’t refuse. “Why not just have dinner at home? To be honest, I’ve been missing your cooking.”
Hearing that someone liked her food made Chloe beam with happiness. She nodded eagerly. “How about tomorrow? I’ll go buy the groceries after my exam, and once you’re done with your work, we can have dinner at home.”
“Sounds perfect,” Wyatt agreed.
After making their plans, Chloe went back home.
The next day, after finishing her exam, Chloe bought the ingredients for dinner and headed home.
The weather was nice today, not as cold as yesterday, and there was even a bit of sunshine.
Just after she got home and started tidying up, the doorbell rang. It was Wyatt.
Wyatt was always punctual. No matter the appointment, he was always right on time..
He had been to her place a few times before, so he walked straight into the kitchen, feeling right at home.
The ingredients were already laid out. Chloe pointed to the vegetables by the sink. “You’re in charge of
these.”
Chloe trusted Wyatt with his tasks and went back to handling her own. Wyatt chuckled and began helping.
Honestly, he found this kind of life quite pleasant. It felt comfortable.
On Saturday morning, Chloe returned from her run and took a shower. She gathered the medicine she had bought over the past few days and took a taxi to Professor Lauren’s house.
When Professor Lauren saw Chloe busily organizing her daily medications, she couldn’t help but mutter, ” The weather’s getting colder, Professor. I’ve prepared all your medicine. You need to take it on time every day. No more drinking cold water either–stick to warm drinks. And please keep your legs warm. Don’t forget to wear the knee pads I bought you.”
Hearing Chloe’s motherly tone, Professor Lauren clicked her tongue in mock annoyance but knew Chloe
meant well.
“Honestly, if I don’t go out, I don’t really need all this medicine,” Professor Lauren grumbled.
She was reluctant to take medicine, sometimes because she was too busy, and other times because the medicine was just too bitter.
Chloe paused what she was doing and turned, looking at her professor sternly. “No excuses. I’ve already talked to your aunt and your students. They’ll remind you to take it on time. Health comes first.”
Professor Lauren sighed, realizing Chloe had covered all her bases, leaving her no room to refuse.
Well, since Chloe had gone to all this trouble, she might as well follow through.

Chloe couldn’t help but laugh at her professor’s resigned expression.
“I know you don’t like taking medicine, so I baked some cookies for you. These should last you a while. When you run out, I’ll bake more. How does that sound?”
Professor Lauren, pleased, nodded. Chloe’s baking was always delicious.
With the promise of cookies, taking medicine didn’t seem so bad anymore.
After chatting about these trivial matters, they sat down to discuss more serious topics.
“Did you know? Next year, the academy is forming a new research team. A few spots are already confirmed, and only two spots remain. The requirements are tough–both grades and lab scores must be A–level or higher.”
Hearing this, Chloe was surprised. The conditions were strict, but it showed how important this research
team was.
Professor Lauren nodded, understanding Chloe’s surprise. “If you get into this group, you’ll earn bonus points, and you’ll have a direct path to a PhD. Plus, you’ll get offers from research companies, including an offer from Arctic Biotech.”
Chloe’s interest was piqued. It was a golden opportunity.
