Chapter 40
Emming and Thea shared a deep bond. Even though Emma had completely given up on Frank, she still held a sense of gratitude toward Thea in her heart.
Now that Thea was hospitalized, Emma couldn’t simply turn a blind eye to it. She immediately began searching for a flight back to her home country.
At the same time, Gabriel noticed Emma booking her flight. He subtly narrowed his eyes, his expression tightening as an air of coldness seemed to radiate from him. He pressed his lips together and asked, “Emma, are you going back?”
Emma froze. She lifted her gaze to meet his eyes, clearly caught off guard by the fact that he had noticed. However, there was no need to hide it. She didn’t try to cover up the truth and said, “Yes, Mrs. Castro, who once took care of me, is in the hospital. I have to go see her.”
Thea was in the hospital.
Gabriel nodded, his calm gaze betraying an emotion that was hard to read. Since Thea was hospitalized, he should visit her too.
“Emma, don’t rush. Booking a flight in such a hurry might be dangerous. Let me go with you. I’ll accompany you back.”
Hearing Gabriel’s words, Emma’s heart skipped a beat. Her pulse quickened instinctively. She was surprised by how considerate he was.
She felt a bit uneasy and replied, “It’s fine. This is something I need to handle on my own.”
Gabriel’s expression darkened slightly.
Emma noticed the change in his face and immediately realized he had misunderstood. Without thinking, she quickly explained, “It’s just that I don’t want to hold you back from anything you need to do here.”
His expression immediately softened, and a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Emma, you can try relying on me more. Since we’re married, I should be fulfilling my responsibilities as your husband.”
Emma’s heart skipped a beat, and her face inexplicably flushed. Weren’t they in a fake marriage?
When Gabriel offered to quickly arrange a private plane to take her back, Emma paused for a moment. In the end, she didn’t refuse. She just wanted to see Thea as soon as possible.
When Emma arrived at the hospital, she gazed at the once–familiar surroundings. As she walked toward Thea’s ward, a sense of hesitation crept over her.
Gabriel was waiting for her in the car, leaving Emma to go in alone. With each step, her heart tightened.
Even when it came to Frank…
Just mentioning his name made her heart flutter with a mix of pain and sorrow. However, she didn’t want to see him again. Since she had already decided to leave, there was no need to linger.
Emma stood to the side for a moment, observing. When she confirmed that Frank wasn’t there, she finally felt at ease and stepped forward.
At that moment, Johr: was standing by the door. He was surprised to see Emma here. “Ms. Dyer, You’re here so soon.”
Emma didn’t offer much of an explanation. She simply asked, “How is Mrs. Castro?”
John paused before replying, “She was hospitalized due to sudden heart palpitations. The doctor said she must avoid any stress from now on. She has just woken up.”
Emma’s expression shifted slightly. She asked in a slightly urgent tone of voice, “Can I go in to see her?”
John immediately opened the door and gestured to her to go in.
When Emma entered the ward, she saw Thea lying in the bed, receiving an IV. Her face was very pale. Upon seeing Emma, her eyes couldn’t help but shimmer with tears. She slowly raised her hand, gesturing for Emma to come closer. “Emma…”
