Frank had completely lost his patience. At this moment, his emotions exploded and collapsed. He dialed a number on his phone, saying, “No matter what it takes, find Emma!”
He was determined to bring her back.
Back at the company, Frank spent the entire afternoon waiting for results. Before he could get any, he received a call from Thea. “Come back to the Castro residence now, no matter what you’re doing!”
Frank was already drained and unable to focus on anything else. Resigned, he said, “Mom…”
The phone clicked abruptly, ending the call. His expression darkened for a moment, but he stood up and left.
Once home, as soon as he stepped through the door, Thea threw a feather duster at him.
Seeing that, Frank stopped and swiftly dodged the blow. He asked in a low voice, “Mom, what are you doing?”
Thea was very furious at that moment. She glared at Frank, looking like she could barely contain her anger. “Frank! What on earth are you doing? You’re distracted all day, neglecting the company, and using every connection you have to track down Emma’s whereabouts?”
Thea understood that Emma’s decision had been driven by profound disappointment and despair. Before leaving, Emma had even asked her specifically not to reveal her whereabouts to Frank.
Frank’s expression darkened as he asked, “How do you know that?”
“How could I not know? Frank, Emma has left, and she’s gone for good. Can’t you just let her start her new life in peace?”
Frank’s tone was filled with an undeniable assertiveness as he responded, “Mom, you don’t need to worry about this. I won’t let her leave without giving me a proper reason.”
Furious, Thea replied, “Frank, you have no relationship with Emma. What right do you have to interfere with her life?”
“Because I’m her uncle!” Frank shot back.
“Oh, so you remember that now? What about when she was here? What kind of nonsense did you do then? At the banquet, you made her stand in for Lea and take the drinks. When she got burned at the company, you didn’t even care about her!”
Frank frowned deeply. “Did she tell you this?”
Thea thought Frank might misunderstand and believe that Emma had complained. Feeling a deep sense of injustice on Emma’s behalf, she said, “Emma would never tell me anything. I found out on my own. Anyway, just let her go and move on. If she has decided to leave our house, it’s because we have hurt her deeply. Don’t make her hate you even more.”
Frank remained steadfast. “That’s impossible. I have to see her and ask her myself!”
Thea’s face flushed with anger as she pointed at Frank. “Y–You-”
In the next moment, Thea suddenly found it hard to breathe. A heavy pressure weighed down on her chest, making it feel as though she couldn’t catch her breath. Her pupils constricted, and she looked at Frank in disbelief.
Frank, now panicked, rushed forward. “Mom, what’s wrong with you?”
Thea couldn’t say a word before she collapsed, fainting instantly.
Soon, she was sent to hospital.
After Thea was rushed into the operating room, Frank waited outside for what felt like an eternity, but she still hadn’t come out.
The red light above the door to the operating room continued to glow, tightening the knot in Frank’s chest with each passing moment.
Not far away, John quietly watched the scene. He was holding Thea’s phone, which he had brought from the Castro residence. Looking at the tense and grim expression on Frank’s face, John finally couldn’t bring himself to remain silent.
He took Thea’s phone out of the transparent bag and sent a message to Emma.
Emnia was in Steistan. She had just finished her finance class when she received the message.
As Gabriel approached from behind, about to call out to her and offer to take her home, he noticed Emma became visibly flustered A fleeting, almost imperceptible emotion flickered in Gabriel’s eyes. “What’s wrong, Emma?”
Holding the phone, Emma’s hand trembled slightly. She replied as her eyes became filled with a swirling storm of emotions, “N–Nothing”
