Vinte didn’t question her request and nodded in agreement.
Just as Emma was about to take her leave, he suddenly called, “Emma”
She turned back, puzzled, only to see Vayne’s serious expression. “The partnership between Castro Group and Eastside University has hit a snag. I heard that Mr. Frank Castro has been in a bad mood lately, supposedly dealing with some trouble involving his first love. Do you know anything about it?”
Erma’s eyes flickered at the news. Trouble between him and Lea?
She felt nothing at this point. She replied, “I’m sorry, Mr. Arcas. I don’t really know anything about Mr. Castro’s love life.”
Vane gave her a glance but chose not to press further.
That afternoon, when Emma walked into her finance class, she locked eyes with Gabriel. She stiffened for a moment, caught off guard by his presence.
Eastside University’s finance program was ranked among the best in the world. The students here were either top achievers or heirs to immense wealth.
Gabriel raised a brow and gestured for her to come over, but the seats around him were already occupied by several women.
Although none of them dared to get too close to Gabriel, they had subtly formed a barrier around him.
Enuma had no interest in becoming the target of their hostility. Pretending not to notice, she headed toward the back of the room to find a seat.
However, Gabriel stood up and walked straight to her. Under the watchful eyes of the entire class, he sat down beside her.
Emma froze, sensing the weight of every woman’s stare. She lowered her voice and asked, “Gabriel, why did you come over here?”
He slowly replied, “Since you wouldn’t come to me, I came to you.”
Emma was at a loss for words. She was about to ask if they really needed to keep up the act of being a couple while at university.
Before she could speak, Samantha walked into the classroom. The moment she spotted them, her expression twisted with resentment.
Unwilling to back down, she strode over. “Gabriel, do you want to stop by Swanson Corporation after class? My dad has a business proposal for you.”
Her tone carried a deliberate sense of familiarity, as if emphasizing her closeness to him.
Gabriel barely furrowed his brows. “If Swanson Corporation wants to collaborate, have your father’s team go through my assistant first”
Samantha’s face stiffened. She opened her mouth to protest, but Gabriel cut her off before she could get a word out. “Class is about to start. Are you sure you want to keep standing bere?
Samantha was left speechless. She couldn’t understand what tricks Emma had used to make Gabriel defend her like this. What did she have that Samantha didn’t? Samantha begrudgingly walked to the front and took her seat. Watching her walk away, Emma felt a twinge of discomfort, like an itch she couldn’t quite scratch.
Gabriel glanced at Emma and said, “If Samantha gives you trouble again, let me know. Don’t keep it to yourself.”
Emma blinked. “You make it sound like I’m fragile.”
She had spent two years honing her skills in the PR department of Castro Group. There was no tough situation she hadn’t handled.
Even when the media caught Frank and Lea in a hotel together, she stayed composed and took care of the fallout.
Back at Castro Group, Frank had been searching for Emma without success. It was only after tracking down one of her university classmates that he learned from her social media that she had gone to Steistan.
