Chapter 21
Erama absentmindedly picked at her food. For some reason, the more enthusiastic the man across from her was, the more she wanted to retreat and keep him at a distance.
It wasn’t until he softly called her name that she snapped out of her thoughts.
She quickly looked over and asked, “What’s up?”
The man adjusted his suit, looking nervous. “Emma, I want to know what you think of me.”
Her eyes flickered slightly as she replied calmly, “You’re quite nice as a friend.”
The man’s face fell. “Since this is a blind date, I really like you and wish to get to know you better. Hence, I want to know your first impression of me.”
Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, she began to panic and almost dropped the fork in her hand. She hurriedly averted her gaze. “I think this is too quick. Let’s take it slow.”
The man realized that pressing too hard would only make her withdraw further.
In the end, they simply exchanged contact information before parting ways.
Emma hadn’t expected that giving him her number out of politeness would result in relentless pursuit. Every day, the man bombarded her with texts. He would text her from the morning, asking about her day, whether or not she had eaten, and if she was resting.
Frightened by the bombardment, she simply logged out of WhatsApp, hoping to avoid his harassment.
As she was putting her phone away, a pair of slender hands suddenly rested on her shoulder. It was Jasmine Lynch, the first friend she made at Eastside Univesity.
They both shared the same home country and had been accepted to Eastside University in the same year. After meeting at university, they quickly hit it off and became close friends.
Jasmine looked at her phone and asked, “Why did you log out of WhatsApp? What if someone messages you and can’t reach you?”
“I’d rather miss messages than deal with constant harassment,” Emma muttered.
Jasmine’s eyes sparkled with curiosity, and she suddenly remembered that Emma had been forced to go on a blind date a few days ago.
“Has the guy from the blind date been spamming you?”
Emma nodded. “I don’t get it. We only met once, yet he’s infatuated with me? Is love really this casual?”
Jasmine studied her up and down before saying, “You really don’t understand men, do you? They’re all visual creatures. The moment they see a woman, they only look at three places–face, chest, and legs. Emma, don’t tell me you’re unaware that your looks and figure are exactly what men go crazy for!”
Hearing this, Emma felt her chest tightened, and a mocking smile tugged at her lips. If that was the case, then why didn’t Frank like her?
She had spent years chasing after him. Her whole world revolved around him, and she had never been interested in any man. Now, she wasn’t even aware that she attracted men. Seeing the hint of sorrow in her expression, Jasmine sensed there was a deeper story behind those eyes. Narrowing her gaze, she suddenly threw an arm around Emma’s shoulders.
“Let’s go out and have some fun tonight! Since we’ve finished our classes and are done with the exams, we should have fun! What do you think about going to a club?”
Faced with Jasmine’s enthusiasm, Emma found it hard to refuse. She took a deep breath and tried to push Frank out of her mind. After all, the whole reason she left everything behind and came to Steistan was to let go of Frank and start over.
She nodded. “Sure.”
Jasmine hugged her excitedly and cheered, “Awesome! Tonight, we’re going to the most popular club in the city!”
