Chapter 15
Courtney looked slightly aggrieved. “Ms. Dyer has already completed all her handover procedures. Besides, did you even check your email?”
Everyone in the company was aware that Emma had been dealing with Lea’s issue these past few days.
Frank had no retort for that. His expression darkened as he turned on his computer, and sure enough, new emails popped up.
One was from Courtney, and the other one was from Emma.
His jaw stiffened, and his deep eyes held a terrifying intensity.
“Emma…”
Halfway through his sentence, he abruptly stopped. He realized he knew nothing about Emma’s life. He couldn’t even remember who her friends were.
Frank’s attention fell on Shane, who tensed up under his scrutiny. “Mr. Castro.”
“Give me your phone.”
Shane, trembling, handed it over immediately.
Frank used it to send Emma a friend request on a social media app as well as a message. He waited and waited, but there was nothing. Each unanswered message extinguished his hope bit by bit. Finally, he shut his eyes and accepted the painful reality.
She had really left him.
“Find out where Emma went!”
Shane didn’t dare to hesitate. “Yes, Mr. Castro!”
Frank spent the next few days doing all he could to find her. However, it seemed like her whereabouts had been deliberately erased because there was no news of her at all. Meanwhile, Lea was completely neglected. She had sent him numerous messages, but all were unanswered. She had no choice but to admit that Emma had won this time. Her departure had put Frank into disarray.
One afternoon, Lea was on the film set looking at her unanswered calls. She couldn’t accept being ignored.
“Kate, I’m going to the banquet tonight,” she turned to her assistant and said with teary eyes.
Kate Dixon hesitated. “Don’t you hate going to these banquets, Ms. Davila? Is Mr. Castro going with you tonight?”
Lea’s face stiffened at the question. She bit her lip and clenched her fists at the sides tightly.
When Frank received Lea’s call, he was drinking alone in his room.
“What’s the matter, Lea?” His tone was as cold as ever.
“Frank, can you come save me? I was forced to drink. I’m scared they’re going to…”
Her shaky voice brought him to attention, and his expression became grim. “Lea, where did you go?”
“The director asked me to attend a banquet with him. I couldn’t refuse…”
Frank narrowed his eyes and gripped the glass tightly. Despite the urgency in Lea’s voice, he was still thinking about Emma. He forced down the turmoil in his chest and concluded that maybe he just wasn’t used to Emma’s sudden absence.
But if something were to happen to Lea…
“Wait there. I’m coming!” Without hesitation, he immediately stood up.
