Chapter 57
After leaving, Frank went straight to Castro Group and instructed Courtney to reserve Emma’s previous position for her.
Courtney was at a loss upon hearing this. She even wondered if Frank was being a little too possessive.
If she ever resigned in the future, would he hunt her down and drag her back too?
However, Frank’s commanding tone left no room for debate. Courtney didn’t dare question him and simply nodded before returning to her office.

The next day, when Courtney arrived at work, she happened to see Emma’s Instagram story. It was just a photo of her returning home without any caption. The sky in the photo was clear, giving the impression that she was starting life anew.
Courtney’s eyes lit up. She and Emma had always had a good relationship at work, so she immediately called her.
Emma answered the call quickly in a warm voice. “Courtney?”
Courtney’s eyes brightened, and her voice was slightly excited. “Emme, you still remember me! I thought you would’ve forgotten all about me.”
“How could I? Anyway, what’s the matter?”
“Emma, I think Mr. Castro’s possessiveness is seriously next–level. He hasn’t been satisfied with anyone for the PR director role for the past two years. He’s driving me crazy!
“Now that someone is finally almost done with the probation period and about to transition to a permanent employee, Mr. Castro suddenly ordered that the position be reopened for you! I was even ready to send the new person an updated employment contract!
“Of course, Emma, I’m not saying I don’t want you back. I’m just venting about how ridiculous Mr. Castro is…”
Courtney had intentionally trailed off to hide the last part.
She wasn’t brave enough to openly criticize Frank.
There was a pause on the other end of the call, followed by Emma’s cool, detached voice. “I won’t be joining Castro Group. Courtney, go ahead and finalize the hire for that person.” “What? Emma, you didn’t agree to Mr. Castro’s request? Then… is he seriously trying to force this?”
“Courtney, I don’t think that’s an appropriate thing to say here.”
Courtney let out an awkward chuckle, then exchanged a few more words with Emma. Noticing the senior executives walking by, she quickly cleared her throat and hung up, pretending to be busy with work
Meanwhile, Emma and Gabriel stepped out of the airport together.
Emma’s eyes flickered with emotions as she took in the familiar sight of her homeland. Everything was just as it had always been.
Gabriel, pushing their luggage, casually asked, “Emma, where do you plan to stay now that you’re back?”
She hesitated slightly. Moving into the Castro residence was absolutely out of the question. That would only drag her into endless entanglements with Frank.
But she didn’t have a permanent place in Keyston yet, so a hotel was her only option for now.
Before she could respond, Gabriel had already made a suggestion. “I have a house that’s currently vacant. If you don’t mind, you can stay there.”
Emana instinctively replied, “That wouldn’t be right. I should at least pay you rent.”
Gabriel turned to look at her, his gaze slowly wrapping around her like creeping vines, making it hard for her to breathe.
Emma lowered her eyes, avoiding his state.
“No need. As long as you take responsibility for what you did back then, that’s enough.”
Emma bit her lip. Even after three years, Gabriel still hadn’t let go of that night. But it had been tier first time too, so neither of them owed the other anything. Still, knowing Gabriel’s character, Emma thought it over and decided not to refuse.
When they finally arrived at the so–called “house” Gabriel had offered, Emma was completely stunned. It wasn’t just a house–it was a full–fledged villa in an upscale residential district. From the exterior landscaping to the moment she stepped inside and saw the luxurious interior design, Emma touldn’t help but take a sharp breath.
