Chapter 55
Emma and Frank weren’t far apart, and she could clearly hear the conversation on the phone.
She scoffed inwardly. Injured again, huh?
Before Frank could respond, she sneered, “Go ahead. Don’t keep Ms. Davila waiting.”
The problem was, by the time he flew back from Steistan… Lea’s injuries would have most likely recovered.
Frank stiffened, his gaze on her carrying an undeniable pressure. Yet his tone remained reconciliatory. “Emma, I’ll wait for you to return.”
As she watched Frank hurry away, Emma stood frozen for a moment. Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit her, forcing her to press a hand against the wall to steady herself.
So what if Frank regretted things now?
When it came to Lea, Frank would always be the first to cast Emma aside.
Emma let out a self–deprecatory smirk, then turned back inside to finish packing her luggage.
That night, she booked a flight home. When she arrived at the airport, she spotted a familiar figure just as she stepped out of the car.
Gabriel stood there, dressed impeccably in a tailored suit. His assistant was beside him, handling his luggage. When his gaze swept over to Emma, her steps faltered.
Was this a coincidence, or had Gabriel come specifically for her?
Her breath caught for a few seconds before she slowly walked over to him. She had expected him to question her, but when he spoke, his tone carried a hint of grievance. “Emma, why didn’t you wait for me?”
His gaze was locked on her, his expression looking genuinely hurt.
Yet in his heart, he thought, “You heartless little thing. Were you planning to ditch me and sneak back to our home country?”
Emma’s body tensed, She pressed her lips together as a flicker of guilt flashed in her eyes.
“I was in a hurry to leave. I thought if I told you, you’d rush as well, so-”
Gabriel cut her off before she could finish, saying, “Are you sure you weren’t trying to leave me behind?”
His words struck a deep chord in Emma’s heart.
She had been abandoned countless times by Frank Hearing Gabriel say this, her emotions wavered. She looked up at him and said, “Then how can I make it up to you?”
Gabriel raised an eyebrow. “Make it up to me? Well, you can use my favorite way.”
Almost as soon as he said that, her face turned bright red.
Over the past two years, during the rare occasions that they argued, Emma would always reflect on her mistakes and then take the initiative to apologize. But Gabriel had a particular way of accepting apologies–one that made her heart race.
Regardless, they were standing in the airport. Emma glanced around nervously before finally tiptoeing and planting a quick peck on his lips. It was just a fleeting touch, and she immediately stepped back
Gabriel’s mood visibly lifted. Though it wasn’t as…. thrilling as when they were at home, her willingness to do it still made him happy.
He leaned in, his breath warm against her ear as he said, “We’ll finish the rest at home.”
A nervous shiver ran through her, and slie quickly took a step back.
“What time is your flight? I need to go check in.”
Gabriel replied, “I’ve already taken care of everything. We’re sitting together. Come on. Let’s go in together.”
Back is Keyston, Frank finally arrived at the hospital after a grueling journey. As he stepped into the ward, he overheard Lea’s anxious voice. “Kate, did you call Frank? Why isn’t he here yet?”
Kate replied awkwardly, “Ms. Davila, I did exactly as you asked. I told Mr. Castro everything. Beyond that… there’s nothing else I can do.”
